Project

Secunda Operations Offset Project Phase 2 RDP Houses (Electrical Reinstatement Scope)

Location

Leandra

Compilation Date in Client Scope

November 2022

Client Project Objective

Procurement & installation of insulation materials and ceiling works to RDP houses (pilot phase).

Godercy Role

Subcontractor / Electrical works package (reinstatement after ceiling/insulation activities)

Background / Problem Statement

The insulation and ceiling installation scope required temporary disturbance of existing electrical routing (lowering/loosening cables) to enable safe installation of insulation materials. Electrical services then needed to be reinstated to a safe, compliant condition using approved materials and qualified personnel.

This hypothetical medium was called the luminiferous aether, at rest relative to the "fixed stars" and through which the Earth moves. Fresnel's partial ether dragging hypothesis ruled out the measurement of first-order (v/c) effects, and although observations of second-order effects (v2/c2) were possible in principle, Maxwell thought they were too small to be detected with then-current technology.

Godercy Scope Executed

  • Electrical reinstatement after insulation/ceiling installation activities
  • Installation of conduit routing on walls and ceiling
  • Use of SABS approved electrical equipment and qualified electrician(s)
  • Site level safety compliance aligned to OHS requirements and client procedures
  • Support to project close-out packs / QC sign-offs (as required by the main contractor/client QA process)

Technical Solution Implemented

  • Ensured neat, standardised routing compatible with new ceiling installation
  • Electrical workmanship aligned to safety and quality expectations for an occupied residential environment (minimising disruption + ensuring safe reinstatement)
  • Re established electrical cable management using conduit to reduce exposure and mechanical damage risk

Impact / Improvement

  • Reduced electrical safety risk after ceiling/insulation work
  • Improved durability of electrical installation through protected routing (conduit)
  • Supported quality assurance handover process via structured close-out documentation
  • Improved household readiness for the broader offset intervention outcomes (comfort/well-being improvements enabled by insulation and ceiling completion)
