High Mast LED Lighting Retrofitting, Electrical Rehabilitation & Security Improvements

Exceptional electrical repair
Maxwell's equations—the foundation of classical electromagnetism—describe light as a wave that moves with a characteristic velocity. The modern view is that light needs no medium of transmission, but Maxwell and his contemporaries were convinced that light waves were propagated in a medium, analogous to sound propagating in air, and ripples propagating on the surface of a pond.
This hypothetical medium was called the luminiferous aether, at rest relative to the "fixed stars" and through which the Earth moves. Fresnel's partial ether dragging hypothesis ruled out the measurement of first-order (v/c) effects, and although observations of second-order effects (v2/c2) were possible in principle, Maxwell thought they were too small to be detected with then-current technology.
Exceptional electrical repair
The municipality’s high mast lighting infrastructure was affected by:
- Poor illumination levels due to aging fittings
- Vandalised and damaged DB boxes
- Energy-inefficient legacy luminaires with high power consumption
- Disconnected and exposed supply cables
- Repeated theft of high mast access lids
- Electrical non compliance and safety risks
These issues resulted in high energy costs, frequent outages, public safety concerns, and increased maintenance exposure.
Scope of Work Executed
Godercy was appointed to upgrade, rehabilitate, secure, and certify the lighting infrastructure
Work executed included:
- Retrofitting 22 high-mast lights to LED technology
- Rewiring and repairing vandalised distribution boards (DBs)
- Reconnecting and terminating supply cables to high-mast systems
- Electrical inspection, testing, and fault rectification
- Installing tamper proof locking systems on high-mast access lids
- Issuing Certificates of Compliance (CoC)
Technical Solution Implemented
Godercy implemented an LED based retrofit combined with electrical rehabilitation and asset protection:
- Replaced old high consumption luminaires with energy efficient LED fittings
- Restored compliant wiring, earthing, and protection at DB level
- Recommissioned lighting systems to stable operational status
- Introduced tamper resistant security measures to prevent repeat vandalism
- Verified compliance through inspection, testing, and certification
Impact & Improvements Delivered+
- Reduced energy consumption compared to legacy lighting
- Improved illumination levels and night time visibility
- Increased public safety in affected communities
- Reduced likelihood of vandalism and asset theft
- Electrical compliance and audit readiness achieved
- Lower long term maintenance and operational costs
Outcome:
A secure, energy efficient, and compliant municipal lighting asset with improved reliability and extended service life.
